ANOTHER FIRST DUE DWELLING FIRE

At 13:23 hrs station 31 was dispatched for a reported dwelling fire at 243 Waltham Rd. FM 234 went responding within seconds. As The FM crested the hill on Oxford Valley Rd., he radioed the county and said he had a header in the sky and requested a working fire. Engine 31 went responding with a crew in quarters. FM 234 arrived onscene and had single story/family dwelling with heavy smoke showing. Engine 31 arrived, took the plug and went into service with an 1 3/4 attack line. Seconds after Rescue 31 arrived and pulled a back up line off of Engine 31. At this time FM 234 was progressing the scene and saw conditions deteriorating and requested the crews to evacuate the dwelling. With both lines in service Engine and Rescue 31 went interior once again. Engine 301, Rescue 13, Engine 77 assisted with hooking and hitting the hot spots. Fire was found in kitchen and two other rooms and the whole attic. The fire was under control in about 45 minutes. Engine and Rescue 31 were onscene for about 2 and half hours. Apparatus onscene were Engines 31, 31-2, 30-1, 77, Rescues 31, 13, 32 and chiefs 31, 30, 13.
